Primary School Sports Program
The National Sports Council’s Coordinator Department is responsible for the coordination and delivery of school sports programs and other sporting initiatives across Belize.
The department operates through nine offices countrywide, strategically located to provide coverage across all six districts. Through these offices, NSC Sports Coordinators work directly with schools, teachers, coaches and other stakeholders to organize and administer sporting activities at the district and national levels.
A major responsibility of the department is the implementation of the Primary School Sports Program, which runs throughout the academic year from September to June.
During the school year, the department coordinates competitions in five sporting disciplines:
Competitions are organized at the district level, culminating in national championships that bring together qualifying schools from across the country.
Through this nationwide structure, the Coordinator Department provides thousands of primary school students with opportunities to participate in organized sport while promoting physical activity, teamwork, discipline and sportsmanship. The program also provides an important foundation for the identification and development of young sporting talent across Belize.
